The Confessional Samadhi of the Lotus Sutra, page 4

D. The Method for First Entering Into the Bodhimandala & Proper Cultivation of the Practice

The practitioner that first enters into the Bodhimandala should take care of ten things:

1. Adorning and Purifying the Bodhimandala

2. Purifying the Body

3. Offering Service with the Body, the Mouth, & the Thinking Mind

4. Requesting the Three Treasures

5. Praising the Three Treasures

6. Worshipping the Buddha

7. The Confession

8. Walking and Circumambulation

9. Chanting The Lotus Sutra

10. Considering the Sphere of the One Reality

During the three weeks, the practitioner enters into the Bodhimandala six times a day. At first, one should take care of all ten of these things. Later, one should abridge the part on ‘Requesting the Three Treasures’ but do the other nine the same way.

In clarifying these ten things, it is only suggested as a technique. It instructs the mind on the thoughts to make, and it instructs the mouth on the words to recite in order to declare the teaching for itself. The practitioner must skillfully grasp the intent and, in so doing, it is not absolutely necessary to recite these exact words.
