The Oral Transmission of the Meaning

(J. Ongi Kuden)

Attributed to Nichiren as oral teachings given to his disciple Nikko. Some consider the Ongi Kuden a later compilation.

The Ongi Kuden offers commentary on passages of The Lotus Sutra from the perspective of Nichiren's Buddhism, and refer frequenly to the commentaries of Chih-I, Kuang-Ting and Chan-Jan.

These translations of text from the Ongi Kuden offer another dimension of perspective on the Sutra's meaning.
