#4 The Two Things that are Sought and Prayed For

The two things that are sought are sons and daughters.

In seeking daughters, there are the fruits and rewards of this world.

In seeking sons, there are the fruits and rewards of the world beyond

Therefore, in bringing about security in this world, there is the seeking of the virtues of daughters.
In there being a good place after this life, there is the seeking of the virtues of sons.

In the seeking of daughters, the Dragon Girl attained enlightenment¹. This is revealing that in there being Life & Death, so there is Nirvana.
In the seeking of sons, Devadatta attained enlightenment². This is revealing that in there being emotional desire & distress, there is also enlightenment.

We all equally reveal that there is the attainment of enlightenment in this very life.

Now Nichiren and his kind practice the chanting of Namu-Myoho Renge Kyo. The search for sons and daughters is fulfilled, and fathers and mothers will surely attain enlightenment.
