The Purification of Confession

Confession of karma (purification and heartfelt catharsis of honesty before the Three Treasures) is a powerful tool for dealing with heavy karma, particularly in the evil latter days.

In Volume Four of The Great Calm-Observation, Chih-I describes the process of falling into hell and arising from it through this confessional process.

Falling into it:

The path back:

1. The darkness of ignorance
2. Evil spiritual acquaintances
3. Without joyful acceptance of spirituality (Dharma)
4. Evil causes in thought, word & deed (the 3 karmas)
5. The spiritual power & influence of evil spreads
6. Continuity of evil
7. Concealment of evil
8. Lack of fear of evil
9. Lack of humility (of self) and shame (before others)
10.Icchantika - lack of faith in cause & effect

1. Observing the empty nature of spirituality (the Dharma)
2. Always remembering the timeless Three Treasures
3. Protecting one's new-found spirituality (Dharma)
4. Cultivating merit to offset karmic retribution
5. Inspiring the Bodhi (awakened) mind
6. Cutting the continuity of causing evil karmas
7. Honest tears & exposing of sin (evil karmas)
8. Fear of evil and its consequences
9. Humility & shame
10. Deep faith in cause & effect (karma & retribution)

The second ten mirror the first ten.
